Background
Previously equipped with an analogue system, Plaza El Roble Mall, located in Chillán, a city within the Biobío Region of Chile, recently adopted an upgrade with the freshly installed IP-based network cameras from VIVOTEK. The project counts as one of the largest retail vertical market cases in IP-based surveillance technology and communications, brought to Chillán’s shoppers by system integrators M y P and Estrom, represented by Marcelo Navarrete and Yusef Nome. The new system resulted in significant improvements in security and safety of the monitored area. The new technology provides digital data backup, excellent image quality and optical zoom for a clearer, more enhanced visual.
Solution
VIVOTEK FD7160 provides an excellent resolution of 2M pixel with a flat dome format type specially designed for public space, elevators and much more. The FD7160s are built with metal and offer great protection against water damage, dust or vandalism. According to the standard EN50155, the FD7160 can withstand vibration, shock, moisture and some forms of tampering, while maintaining a stable video footage and high quality image. The implementation of 60 VIVOTEK FD7160s involved a new hybrid topology to overcome the conditions of the environment. The power supply by PoE (Power-over-Ethernet) under an UPS base provides autonomy in terms of potential problematic situations, such as power outage, in which the system remains functional and the recording continues. Four months later (June 2011), the second phase commenced and new cameras were added to the monitoring system, reaching a total number of more than 75. In order to sustain excellent support for recording and for end-users to manage large volumes of information generated on the daily basis, a new digital database backup system was installed through two QNAP servers with more than 12TB each. Today, with ongoing expansion of Plaza El Roble Mall, more budget for surveillance technology is already in place for potential extension to the network of cameras, including links to optical fiber as well as other VIVOTEK high-megapixel cameras capable of H.264 compression.
Customer feedback
Technical trainings for all personnel responsible for the security and safety measure of Plaza El Roble Mall, including Rapporteur, Ernaldo Godoy and Chief technician of M y P, took place in February 2011. According to Don Juan Rodríguez, Manager of Plaza El Roble Mall, the transform in the security system was absolutely necessary. "We want to keep improving the system and add new cameras to provide an excellent level of safety for our customers in a short term,” he said. The latest security system also helps end-users realize transparent management of data to future platforms which, at some point, will inevitably converge to a fully digital surveillance solution.
